Blast from the past

I had a strong feeling of something-is-not-okay during a meeting today.

One of our vendors opened his notebook, connected it to a projector, and started showing us something on the wall. In the beginning I couldn’t quite pinpoint it. Slides, diagrams, images, text. Normal things. What the heck is not normal? Then I realized! He was running Windows XP and Internet Explorer 6!

It felt so odd to see someone demoing a web site by using Windows and Internet Explorer. As unnatural as seeing a horse carriage in the middle of Tokyo in 2010.

Yahoo, why art thou so lame?

Logged in to Yahoo after quite a long time. Now it’s asking me to set two secret questions and answers. And look what they recommend for the answers: “Make sure your answer is private, memorable and does not change over time” — How smart! That’s the fastest way for someone to guess your password: if it’s memorable and doesn’t change over time! :-)

And you know what’s the worst part? I have already set a password recovery email address. Nevertheless, that’s optional for Yahoo. The two secret questions are required. That’s so friggin’ lame!
