I had a strong feeling of something-is-not-okay during a meeting today.
One of our vendors opened his notebook, connected it to a projector, and started showing us something on the wall.
In the beginning I couldn’t quite pinpoint it. Slides, diagrams, images, text. Normal things. What the heck is not normal? Then I realized! He was running Windows XP and Internet Explorer 6!
It felt so odd to see someone demoing a web site by using Windows and Internet Explorer. As unnatural as seeing a horse carriage in the middle of Tokyo in 2010.
Logged in to Yahoo after quite a long time.
Now it’s asking me to set two secret questions and answers. And look what they recommend for the answers: “Make sure your answer is private, memorable and does not change over time” — How smart! That’s the fastest way for someone to guess your password: if it’s memorable and doesn’t change over time! :-)
And you know what’s the worst part? I have already set a password recovery email address. Nevertheless, that’s optional for Yahoo. The two secret questions are required. That’s so friggin’ lame!
The longer someone works in isolation, the greater the likelihood that what they produce won’t be what is needed from them.

Just subscribed to Ping.fm — pretty cool service!
It’s still in private beta, but you can use “landofping” as the beta code.
